St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church in Edwardsville, PA Celebrates Final Divine Liturgy
Sunday, February 27th was a sad day for the parishioners of St. Vladimir Church in Edwardsville, PA and also for the Archeparchy.
With the declining attendance and income, the situation became unmanageable; the unfortunate decision to close the parish was made. The last years saw the parish share the services of a priest with SS. Peter & Paul Church in Wilkes-Barre.
Msgr. Peter D. Waslo, the Chancellor of the Archeparchy, was the celebrant of the Divine Liturgy on behalf of His Grace, Metropolitan Borys. He thanked those who, in spite of the odds, were faithful in attending every Sunday and supporting the parish within their means. It was truly an act of love.
The parish of St. Vladimir had a glorious history and was the leader in training vocations for the Archeparchy. The parish was founded in 1910 and within two years property on Zerby Avenue was purchased and a church was built.
