St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church in Edwardsville, PA Celebrates Final Divine Liturgy

During the years, the parish flourished with various parish organizations and activities. A number floods also hit the church but the parish always rebounded. It was after the flooding of Hurricane Agnes in 1972 that galvanized the parish. Renewal through the years took place where in the late 1990’s, a decision was made to build a new church. This is the present church which was celebrated the closing Liturgy.

The parish was blessed through the years to have four vocations: Rev. Nicholas Wolesnky, Rev. John Litwak, Sr. Rose Ann Syroid, O.S.B.M. and Rev. Paul Wolensky. The parish was also instrumental in training future priests, namely, Rev. Peter Tomas (now serving in the Eparchy of Passaic), our Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Andriy Rabiy, Rev. Petro Zvarych (Pastor of the Frackville and Maizeviile parishes) and Very Rev. Ivan Turyk, (Pastor of Perth Amboy). All served as seminarians or Deacons in the parish and learned in depth their ministry in order to serve the People of God.

Today, the parishioners are asked to join SS. Peter & Paul Church in Plymouth as all assets and records will be maintained there. Until such time the church will still be utilized for funerals and other Sacraments for the former parishioners plus an occasional Liturgy.
