Faces and Moments: 140 Years of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the US

The Church is not built of walls; it is built by the people who create the community.

In this exhibition, we present a collection of photographs selected from the archives of our Archeparchy. Through these images, we aim to tell the story of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the United States—its leaders, clergy, and faithful. These photos capture various facets of Church life and the individuals who have shaped, and continue to shape, its journey.

The people in these photos laid the foundations for our Church, establishing parishes, organizing communities and schools, and building churches and parish halls. They prayed, sanctified their lives through the sacraments, and nourished their daily existence with the Eucharist. They rejoiced, sang, lived, and intertwined their personal journeys with that of the Church. Whether offering their vocations to the Church or dedicating their time to making varenyky or organizing Christmas bazaars, they contributed to a living faith. For many, the Church became a sanctuary—a place where they could share their struggles and find support and hope amidst the challenges of life.

Today, as we continue to build the Church, we honor their legacy. Their faith and courage inspire us. Though our challenges may be different, like them, we are called to build the Church, nurture our relationships with others, and deepen our connection with Christ.
