The Ukrainian Catholic Archeaprchy of Philadelphia has probably the richest collection of documents and indispensable source material on the history of the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the US and the development of Ukrainian communities on the East Coast. The earliest materials come from 1907 when Metropolitan Andrey Sheptycky requested that bishop Soter Ortynsky be sent to Philadelphia to strengthen Ukrainian religious life in the US.
