2024 Christmas appeal

Priests are at the heart of our Church, bringing people closer to God by administering Sacraments, offering spiritual guidance, and sustaining parish communities. Thank you for generously supporting these remarkably fruitful efforts to renew our presbyterate. Today, with your help, we are actively preparing the next generation of clergy.

This Philip's Fast (Advent), we ask you to consider supporting them and continuing to invest in the renewal of our Archeparcy.

“Strengthening and developing our presbyterate has been my priority as
Archbishop. Parishes cannot survive without priests. In the US, many parishes have
been closed because of the clergy shortage. May God bless us with more new
priests. Supporting the formation of seminarians is an investment in the future of
our Church.”

The Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia is blessed with 52 dedicated priests serving 62 parishes and two missions across five states and the District of Columbia. Since 2021, we have joyfully welcomed 15 new priests. The average age of our active priests has dropped to 53, while the average age of active Catholic priests in the US is 63.

On December 1, we celebrated the ordination of Fr. Bohdan Vasyliv, our 15th new priest. Born in Ukraine, Fr. Bohdan grew up in the United States, studied at Manor College and Saint Josaphat Seminary in Washington, DC, and completed his priestly formation at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.

His ordination is a testament to the power of your prayers, support, and generosity.

“I began my journey with Christ in November, 2019, making the best confession I could.
At first, I resisted the idea of becoming a priest,
but God reoriented my heart and desires.
Despite challenges, these past years have been a profound blessing.”
