On July 30, 2023, the 89th annual Ukrainian Seminary Day was held near Minersville in Primrose, Pennsylvania. The surrounding twelve parishes came together to raise funds for St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Seminary. The celebration began with a Divine Liturgy led by Metropolitan Borys Gudziak in St. Nicholas Hall. The archbishop addressed the faithful: “Peter was a man from a simple Galilean village, and today he is one of the greatest stones of the Church. Why? Because he learned to keep the face of the Risen Lord before his eyes. This is what the Church teaches us today, what the Gospel teaches”.
After the Divine Liturgy, the parishioners and guests gathered for a picnic, where everyone could enjoy various traditional Ukrainian and American dishes. This festival was attended not only by parishioners but also by guests who, despite sometimes traveling long distances, happily come every year to support the seminary and strengthen the community. At the beginning of the artistic program, Metropolitan Borys Gudziak thanked all those present for the help and support of the Ukrainian people, as well as for the support of the seminarians. The archbishop recalled: “Peter walked on the water through the waves, the wind, through problems and challenges, his fears and concerns, until he took his eyes off the eyes of Christ. If you look into the Lord’s eyes, you will receive His blessing; if you taste the kindness of the Lord, you will pass all challenges”.
