Archbishop of Philadelphia Presided at the Funeral of Major General Nicholas Krawciw in West Point, NY

On Thursday, November 18, 2021, Metropolitan Archbishop of Philadelphia, Borys Gudziak with Fr Taras Lonchyna, pastor of Saint Josaphat in Trenton, NJ, and Fr Matt Pawlikowski, the chaplain at West Point Academy, NY, prayed the funeral service for Major General Nicholas Krawciw at the Trinity Chapel in West Point. After the Gospel reading, Metropolitan addressed all present pointing out how the hand of God was protecting Major General Krawciw since his childhood, when his family was fleeing the communists. After the service in the chapel, Brigade General Ret. Peter Dawkins, the classmate of late Major General Krawciw, shared his memories about the deceased.

Major General Krawiciw was buried at the military cemetery in West Point, NY. The final prayers at the graveside and committal was preceded by the military honors.

Major General Krawciw was born November 28, 1935 in Ukraine. His family fled to the United States, where he resided in Philadelphia, PA prior to his application to West Point Academy, NY, class of 1959. During his service, he was injured in Vietnam war and was stationed with UN in Israel. His role in the Yom Kippur War was commended by those who knew him and served with him. After his retirement, he was an advisor to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to help reorganize the Ukrainian Army. Major General Nicholas Krawciw was a member of Plast and an active member of Ukrainian Community in the USA. He died on September 29, 2021.
