In his first words as the new bishop of Wilmington, Bishop William Koenig focused on three emotions he experienced during the Mass of Ordination and Installation: thankfulness, humbleness, and eagerness.

Bishop William Koenig was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Rockville Center, NY, on May 14, 1983. Among his many pastoral assignments, he held the offices of the Vocation Director, Diocesan Director of Ministry to Priests, and lastly the Vicar for Clergy. He was appointed Bishop by Pope Francis on April 30, 2021.

On the territory of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, there are two Ukrainian Catholic parishes: Saint Nicholas in Wilmington, DE and Saint Basil in Chesapeake City, MD. Rev. Volodymyr Klanichka is pastor at these two parishes.
