“Do You Know That God Loves You?”: Archbishop Borys Gudziak Visits Olyphant Parish

On March 30, Metropolitan Borys Gudziak visited Sts. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church in Olyphant, PA, where he presided over the Divine Liturgy and delivered a homily on the themes of redemption and divine love.

Reflecting on the meaning of Christ’s sacrifice, Archbishop Borys spoke about humanity’s tendency to “grab” after the Fall, and how God responded with a radical gift. “After we started living as grabbers, God said: ‘I will give you my Son, so you can live the gift again.’ I give Him to go into your life, to go into your sin, to go into your death,” the Archbishop preached. “We will celebrate this in Passion Week... and the fact that death could not hold the source of life.”

Central to his homily was the unconditional love of God. “The Lord loves us. That’s why Jesus comes into this world—to show the Father’s love,” the Archbishop said. “If we don’t know that God loves us, it’s hard for us to love God. He is just a statue or an abstract judge.”

Urging the faithful to rediscover the beauty of creation and their own identity in God’s eyes, the Archbishop concluded with a call to reflection: “Look at a person in the mirror and ask: ‘Do you know that God loves you?’ Because that’s the whole point of life.”
