Metropolitan Borys Gudziak, Archbishop of Philadelphia of the Ukrainian Catholic Church, participated as a panelist in a symposium marking the 50th anniversary of the Foundations and Donors Interested in Catholic Activities (FADICA), held March 12 in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1976, FADICA is a collaborative network of Catholic philanthropic foundations and donors committed to advancing the mission of the Church through strategic charitable support.
The event, titled “The Church’s Mission and Witness — and Formation for Mission,” took place during FADICA’s 2026 Annual Meeting and Symposium. The gathering brought together approximately 200 representatives of Catholic philanthropic foundations from across the United States.
Archbishop Gudziak joined a panel discussion on “The Church’s Mission and Witness,” moderated by journalist Tiziana Dearing. Other panelists included Sister Helen Prejean, CSJ, founder of Ministry Against the Death Penalty, and Father Manuel Williams, C.R., director of Resurrection Catholic Missions of the South.
During the conversation, Archbishop Gudziak reflected on the mission of the Church in today’s world, emphasizing that authentic Christian service must be rooted in spiritual discernment. He noted that spiritual joy is an important sign that one is walking on the right path in responding to God’s call, underscoring the importance of interior freedom and faith in the Church’s witness and service.
The symposium also featured a second conversation on the formation of leaders for the Church’s mission, with participants from Catholic academic and service institutions.
The evening concluded with a gala dinner and a special recognition honoring Cardinal Christophe Pierre, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, who is completing his diplomatic service in the country.
Fr. Iouri Koslovskii, director of the Saint Gabriel Institute, accompanied the Archbishop during the event.
