Philadelphia Marks the 1700th Anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea

On October 6, 2025, a solemn ecumenical service was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia to commemorate the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea - an event that laid the foundation for the Christian doctrine on the Holy Trinity.

The celebration was led by Archbishop Nelson Pérez, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and Metropolitan Borys Gudziak, head of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia. The gathering brought together numerous clergy from various Christian traditions, along with the faithful from across the region.

During the service, prayers of thanksgiving were offered, the Word of God was solemnly proclaimed, and the Nicene Creed was sung in three languages—English, Latin, and Greek.
