A New School Year Begins at Assumption Catholic School

The 2026–2027 school year has begun at Assumption Catholic School in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Before students returned to the classroom, the school’s faculty and staff gathered for their first meeting of the new academic year. New teachers were warmly welcomed into the ACS family, while returning teachers were excited to reconnect with their colleagues, prepare their classrooms, and get ready for the year ahead. This year, the school begins the new academic year fully staffed.

On August 30, following the Sunday Divine Liturgies at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, a special blessing of backpacks took place. The parish community prayed for God’s abundant blessings upon all students, teachers, administrators, staff, and all those involved in education, asking the Lord to guide, protect, and strengthen them throughout the coming school year.

Representatives of Assumption Catholic School also attended the Opening Mass for the new school year in the Diocese of Metuchen. During the celebration, prayers were offered for a blessed, joyful, and successful school year for both schools of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia, as well as all the schools of the Diocese of Metuchen. This year, Assumption Catholic School welcomes 171 students, including many new faces.

Ukrainian language and culture remain an important part of education at Assumption Catholic School. Students have the opportunity to learn about their Ukrainian heritage in a fun, engaging, and meaningful environment, strengthening their connection to the language, culture, and traditions of their heritage.
