Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen

On September 24, 2026, the beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen took place in St. Louis, Missouri, marking a significant moment in the life of the Catholic Church in the United States.

Father Taras Lonchyna, together with his wife Lala and daughter-in-law Marichka, attended the beatification. Fr. Taras joined representatives of the Eastern Catholic Churches present for the celebration, including Fr. Vissarion Kouotsis of Athens and priests of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church.

Blessed Fulton J. Sheen (1895-1979) was an American archbishop, theologian, author, and renowned preacher who became one of the most recognizable Catholic voices of the 20th century. He was a pioneer in using modern means of communication to proclaim the Gospel, reaching millions through radio and television. His broadcasts included the radio program The Catholic Hour and the widely known television program Life Is Worth Living.

Through his preaching and media ministry, Blessed Fulton Sheen sought to communicate the Catholic faith to audiences far beyond the walls of the Church. His beatification recognizes a life dedicated to evangelization and service to the Church.
