Bishop Rabiy at Sister Anne Binkowski’s Funeral: She Will Not Be Forgotten

The funeral of Sister Anne Katherine Binkowski, MSMG was held on December 2 at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. She died on November 26 at the age of 92. The internment took place the same day at Our Lady of Sorrows Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.

The Most Reverend Andriy Rabiy, auxiliary bishop of the Archeparchy of Philadelphia, presided at the funeral. He reflected on the Christian understanding of death in his homily. “Many people do not know how to deal with death, what to do with pain. For a Christian death is different. We have hope. We have hope in resurrection, that we will see Christ Himself and spend the whole eternity with Him. We know that our heart is restless until it rests in the Lord. In Him all our desires will be completed,” stressed the bishop. He emphasized this was Sister Anne’s understanding of death. Moreover, the Bishop noted that she remained happy during the last years of her life despite struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Bishop Rabiy also shared some details of Sister Anne’s life. She entered the Convent in 1963 and remained until her death. “She fulfilled the promise she made to God at her profession. She preached the Gospel of Christ in the convent and elsewhere in various roles. Sister Anne dedicated forty years of her religious life to teaching and passed down her faith.” With a tiny smile he mentioned too that Sister Anne was a dedicated football fan

Bishop Andriy passionately addressed Sister Anne’s religious community and relatives. “She is gone but will not be forgotten. Do not think about her in the past tense. Pray in gratitude that she was a part of your family. And she will always be so.”
