Funeral of Sister Bernitta Dub, SSMI

On Monday, November 1, Bishop Paul Chomnycky and Metropolitan Borys Gudziak led the funeral of Sister Bernitta Dub, SSMI in Sloatsburg. Fathers Kiril Angelov, chancellor of the Stamford Eparchy; Philip Weiner of Rochester NY; Edward Young, from Ansonia, CT; and John Terlecky, chaplain to the Sisters, joined all in prayer for the repose of her soul.

Bishop Paul in his homily noted that Sister Bernitta spent more than 50 years in education out of her 68 years in religious life. He also praised her kindness towards all and dedication to prayer. Bishop Paul, along with Father Philip and Provincial Superior Sister Eliane Ilnycky, recalled the expression Sister Bernitta often used, “You will be in my will of prayer.” Father Philip shared that in the Sisters’ chapel in Rochester, the carpet where Sister Bernitta stood was well worn because she was there so often. At the end of the Liturgy Sister Eliane shared the story of Sister Bernitta’s vocation and life of service.

After the Liturgy and the final farewell, the funeral procession continued to the Sisters’ cemetery where Sister Bernitta was interred.

May her memory be eternal! Vichanya pamyat!
