On February 8, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, presided at the Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Pro-Cathedral of Saint Sophia in Rome. Concelebrating with him were Metropolitan Borys Gudziak, Metropolitan of Philadelphia, and Bishop Hryhoriy Komar, Exarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Italy.
Among those present at the prayer were Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, Prefect of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches; Archbishop Michel Jalakh, O.A.M., Secretary of the Dicastery; and Bishop Filippo Ciampanelli, Undersecretary.
During the Divine Liturgy, His Beatitude Sviatoslav conferred priestly ordination on Deacon Daniel Galadza of the Kyiv Archeparchy — of Ukrainian heritage, a native of Canada, professor at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, and a staff member of the Dicastery for the Eastern Churches.
Addressing Father Daniel, His Beatitude noted that, by God’s mysterious design, his ministry may become a path leading students — “the least of the brothers and sisters of Christ” — into the depth of the mystery of the liturgical theology of the Church of Christ. “We rejoice that the Lord God is with us—under missiles and bombs in Ukraine, and wherever our Church is present among her faithful throughout the world. God cares for His Church and sends her new priests."
Following the Liturgy, Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti offered greetings, thanking Father Daniel for his dedicated service in the Dicastery.
