Metropolitan Participates in Plenary Session of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches

On February 16-19, the Vatican hosts a plenary session of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches focusing on the topic: “Eastern Catholic Churches: Evangelization and Mission, Challenges of the Present.” Metropolitan Borys Gudziak, who was appointed to the Congregation by Pope Francis in 2019, will deliver a report on the possibility of establishing new patriarchates in Eastern Catholic churches and renouncing patriarchal service, as well as on the role of emeritus bishops in the Synod.

In addition, a conference on the liturgical precepts of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches is being held during the plenary session. During the first day of the conference, the Metropolitan delivered a report, “The Relationship between Tradition, Translation and Reform: The Challenges of the Diaspora.”

Participants of the plenary session will celebrate Liturgy in St. Peter’s Basilica to mark the occasion. In addition, they will have an audience with Pope Francis.

On Tuesday, February 15, Archbishop Borys led the Divine Liturgy held at the Ukrainian Pontifical College of Saint Josaphat in Rome.
