St. Michael’s Parish Participates in Frackville’s 150th Anniversary Celebration

On Saturday, June 27, 2026, St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Frackville took part in the Borough of Frackville’s Sesquicentennial celebration by participating in the community fire hydrant painting contest and entering a float in the anniversary parade.

Joining the parishioners for the celebration were Rev. Paul Spotts, Rev. Petro Zvarych, and Rev. Bohdan Vasyliv.

Parishioner and local artist Taryn Troini painted the fire hydrant located on the church property. Her design depicts the front of St. Michael’s Church, including its stained-glass windows and mosaic icon. The fire hydrant painting is part of a community-wide contest, with winners to be announced in August.

Parishioners also designed, built and walked with the parish’s float in the Sesquicentennial parade through the streets of Frackville. The float featured symbols representing both the 250th anniversary of the United States and Frackville’s 150th anniversary, including the Liberty Bell, a Ukrainian pysanka, the dome of St. Michael’s Church, and the Ukrainian tryzub.

The Frackville Sesquicentennial celebration brought together local churches, organizations, businesses, and residents to commemorate the borough’s 150th anniversary.
