The day began with a visit to St. Mary’s Church, the historic parish led by Blessed Michael McGivney, where Archbishop Gudziak prayed at the tomb of the founder of the Knights of Columbus. This moment of prayer highlighted the spiritual roots of the Order and its enduring mission of faith, charity, and fraternity.
Archbishop Gudziak then proceeded to the headquarters of the Knights of Columbus, where he was formally inducted into the Order and received honorary membership. Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly conducted the induction ceremony. As part of this occasion, Archbishop Gudziak was also enrolled in the Council of the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of the Holy Family in Washington, D.C.
To commemorate the event, Archbishop Gudziak presented Supreme Knight Patrick Kelly with an icon of Blessed Michael McGivney. The icon was specially commissioned for this occasion and is believed to be the first Byzantine-style icon of Blessed Michael McGivney. It was written by Ukrainian iconographer Ivan Karas of Rome and sponsored by members of the Ukrainian Catholic Parish of the Holy Family in Washington, D.C., together with other benefactors.
Following the ceremony, Archbishop Gudziak visited the Knights of Columbus Museum, located adjacent to the Order’s headquarters, which preserves and presents the history, mission, and charitable work of the Knights of Columbus.
