On Friday, May 1, Assumption Catholic School in Perth Amboy celebrated the annual installation of new Sodality members, a cherished faith-based organization for girls in grades 3–8.
The Sodality began in 1951, when parish girls gathered for prayer, service, and devotion to the Blessed Mother, embracing the motto, “To Jesus through Mary.” With the opening of the parish school in the 1960s, it naturally became an important part of student life. In earlier years, the Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God guided the girls, and today, the Sisters Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará continue this mission.
They teach Marian hymns, the Moleben, and the Rosary. Through monthly meetings, service, and joyful community activities, they help the girls grow in faith and deepen their devotion.
Over the years, the Sodality has remained a beloved part of school life, inspiring young girls to love the Blessed Mother and to choose “the better part” in their daily lives.
The ceremony was conducted with reverence and grace by the school sisters—Sr. Veronica, Sr. Trijtsi, and Sr. Svitanku—who had prepared the candidates throughout the year. One of the most moving moments followed the school Liturgy, when Fr. Ivan and the sisters placed symbolic blue caps on the new members—a meaningful sign of their commitment to grow in faith and devotion to the Mother of God.
Rev. Ivan Turyk blessed the medals, and the school principal, Mrs. Shumny, presented certificates affirming each girl’s call to live as a young woman of prayer, virtue, and Marian devotion.
Following the ceremony, all were invited to a breakfast sponsored by the School Family Association, offering a joyful time of fellowship and celebration.
May the Blessed Mother continue to guide and protect these young members as they grow in faith and serve their school community.
