The Advisory Council is a consultative body of more than 30 members that advises the Administrative Committee of the U.S. bishops on matters affecting the life and mission of the Catholic Church in the United States. Its members include clergy, religious, and lay faithful—deacons, priests, men and women religious, as well as lay leaders from across the country.
Zacharczuk represents Region 15, which includes the Eastern Catholic eparchies in the United States. Unlike other USCCB regions that are defined geographically, Region 15 is composed of the Eastern Catholic Churches present in the country.
The formation of the Advisory Council was first approved by the U.S. bishops in April 1968 as a means of strengthening consultation and collaboration in the work of the Conference.
