Archbishop Borys Gudziak Honored at Plast Philadelphia’s 75th Anniversary Banquet

Archbishop Borys Gudziak was among the honored guests at the 75th Anniversary Banquet of Plast Philadelphia, held on March 1 at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. The event brought together more than 250 guests, including Plast members of different generations and friends of the organization.

The celebration began with welcoming remarks from Philadelphia Plast Chair Christina Brozyna, followed by emcee Roman Hryciw, who guided the audience through key moments in Plast’s 75-year history and its role in shaping generations of Ukrainian youth.

During the evening, Archbishop Borys was awarded one of Plast’s highest honors, Plastun Senior of Leadership (пластун сеньйор керівництва). In his speech, he expressed strong support for the organization’s mission and shared words of encouragement and hope for the future of the Ukrainian community.

“Plast was a place of formation for many of us—a place where we sang together, held hands by the campfire, and embarked on journeys. The Philadelphia branch is renowned, and its Plast members are exceptional. Thank you for decades of song and smiles, the Great Game (Велика Гра), challenges, and hard work. This is the kind of leadership that our Ukrainian and American communities, as well as the global Ukrainian diaspora, truly need,” noted the Archbishop.

A highlight of the evening was a theatrical performance by young Plast members—A Magic Dream, written and directed by Zenia Brozyna.
