Archeparchy Raises $111,400 at Reporting and Benefit Event in Philadelphia

The Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia successfully raised $111,400 to support its core ministries during the 2024 Reporting and Benefit Event: Engaging Our Core, held on October 5, 2024, at the Cathedral Hall in Philadelphia. The event, which gathered more than 200 guests, surpassed its initial $100,000 fundraising goal and drew support from over 140 individual donors.

An anonymous donor has committed to matching $100,000 of the funds raised, which will be directed to the Healing the Wounds of War in Ukraine Fund, significantly amplifying the impact of the evening. The total raised includes $11,050 from a silent auction featuring works from Ukrainian and Ukrainian American artists.

During his keynote address, Metropolitan Borys Gudziak highlighted the importance of strong leadership in parishes and the Archeparchy’s recent developments: “In the last 3.5 years, our Archeparchy has welcomed 16 new clergy—14 young priests and 2 new deacons. As Christians, our mission is to witness personally, build relationships, and strengthen our community. It's essential that our parishes have good leadership.”

He also discussed the challenges ahead, emphasizing the need for a strong organizational center to support the Archeparchy’s work, especially in light of the ongoing war in Ukraine: "To share our message, we need a strong center," he noted. "This evening is a model of what we strive for—personal witness, relationship, and community.”

Archbishop Nelson Perez, who attended the event, expressed his deep gratitude to the Ukrainian soldiers present, who are currently receiving rehabilitation in the U.S.: “You sacrifice so much for the Ukrainian people, and your presence here honors us,” he said. Archbishop Perez echoed Metropolitan Borys' call for unity and a return to the core values of faith, culture, and community.

The evening was further enlivened by live performances from the Philadelphia Funk Authority and a four-course dinner prepared by The Choice Restaurant of Bryn Mawr. Guests also enjoyed a photo exhibit titled Faces and Moments: 140 Years of Ukrainian Catholic Pastoral Activity in the U.S., celebrating the Church’s rich history in America.

Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of all participants, the event was a resounding success. The Archeparchy extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved and looks forward to the next Reporting and Benefit Event, scheduled for October 4, 2025.
