Dormition Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

On the Feast of the Dormition, Metropolitan-Archbishop Borys Gudziak presided at the Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia. Concelebrating were Fr. Brian Kolodiajchuk, M.C., Postulator of the Cause of Canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta, Fr. Roman Pitula, Rector of the Cathedral, Fr. Volodymyr Radko, and Deacon Ihor Demydas.

The homily was delivered by Fr. Brian, who spoke about placing full trust in God and in the protection of the Mother of God.

After the Liturgy, a special prayer was offered for peace in Ukraine. Archbishop Borys underlined the importance of prayer in the life of the Church and its people.

The celebration concluded with the traditional blessing of flowers. This practice, common in the Ukrainian Catholic Church, recalls the tradition that when the Apostles opened the tomb of the Mother of God, it was found empty and filled with flowers. The blessing symbolizes Mary’s assumption and God’s blessing carried into the homes of the faithful.
