August 22, 2025 in Philadelphia, the Ukrainian community and friends of Ukraine gathered at City Hall to celebrate the 34th Anniversary of the restoration of Ukraine’s Independence.
The Archeparchy of Philadelphia clergy led the prayer for peace, freedom, and the future of Ukraine.
The Ukrainian flag was raised by American veterans in the presence of Ukrainian defenders currently in the U.S. for rehabilitation.
The event was organized by Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Philadelphia, Iryna Mazur, with the support of the Ukrainian Federation of America, Manor College, and the Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union. Also present were the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America (UCCA), the American Jewish Committee (AJC), and Revived Soldiers Ukraine and Protez Foundation.
The City of Philadelphia, through Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, issued a Proclamation declaring August 22, 2025, as Ukraine Independence Day in Philadelphia. In addition, Governor Josh Shapiro extended his greetings, recognizing the Ukrainian community’s invaluable contributions to Pennsylvania and reaffirming solidarity with Ukraine.
