On January 27, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Sofia Zacharczuk represented the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia at the “Holocaust Remembrance for Dignity and Human Rights” ceremony at the United Nations.
The program featured remarks from dignitaries and powerful firsthand testimonies from two Holocaust survivors. Mr. Dumitru Misclescu from Romania recounted his experiences as a Roma survivor, while Mr. Marianne Muller from Israel, born in Budapest, shared how his mother’s courage saved them from the Nazis when he was a young child.
The ceremony also included three performances by the Lebensmelodien Project ensemble, featuring pieces composed during the Holocaust, along with the stories of their composers—preserving the memory of those who endured one of history’s darkest chapters.
