On Thursday, May 14, 2026, on the feast of the Ascension at Saint Patrick's Cathedral in New York, the Mass of Thanksgiving was held to mark the 50th Anniversary of the priesthood and 25th anniversary of the episcopacy of Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of New York.
During the homily, Most Rev. Ronald Hicks, Archbishop of New York, highlighted that the core of the identity of the jubilarian is being a priest, and being a joyful priest, regardless of the various titles he held throughout his life. At the end of the Mass, Cardinal Dolan thanked all present for their prayers and recalled that during his 17 years of service as Archbishop of New York, this Archdiocese had become his family. At the end of the Mass, a block party was held alongside the cathedral with soft drinks, live music, and hot dogs.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan is also known as a friend of the Ukrainian community. Notably, he was the first US Catholic prelate to visit Ukraine in May 2022, just weeks after the full-scale invasion. Afterwards, he hosted several prayer services for peace in Ukraine at Saint Patrick's Cathedral. Another important event held at Saint Patrick's in Manhattan is the annual commemoration of the victims of Holodomor in November.
On the occasion of his golden and silver jubilees, Archbishop Borys Gudziak of Philadelphia, Metropolitan for the Ukrainian Catholics in the US, conveyed his words of gratitude for Cardinal Dolan's closeness to Ukraine through Fr. Volodymyr Radko, who attended the Mass.
