On February 24, 2026, clergy of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia — Fathers Peter, Ruslan, Roman, Ostap, and Vasyl — joined the Mass celebrated at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on the Day of Prayer for Peace.
The liturgy brought together clergy and faithful from across the Archdiocese, uniting Catholics in prayer for peace, healing, unity, and renewed respect for the dignity of every human life. Ukraine was explicitly remembered during the Mass, as prayers were offered for the Ukrainian people amid the ongoing war and humanitarian suffering.
Addressing the faithful during the liturgy, Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez reflected on the realities of the modern world and the role of prayer amid constant exposure to global events, “Today we find out instantly what is happening in the world—often without even leaving our homes. Sometimes what we see reflects the very best of who we are as human beings, inspiring pride, gratitude, and hope. But too often, we are confronted with images and stories that are frightening and deeply saddening. In moments like these, prayer becomes essential. It anchors us, reminds us of our shared humanity, and calls us to healing, unity, and peace.”
The Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia expresses its gratitude to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for the invitation to participate in this moment of communal prayer, affirming the Church’s mission to stand in solidarity with those who suffer and to pray unceasingly for a just and lasting peace.
