Fourth Sunday of the Great Fast: A Call to Faith and Prayer

On March 15, Metropolitan Borys Gudziak reflected on the Gospel of the Fourth Sunday of the Great Fast, which recounts the healing of a boy afflicted by evil spirits. In his homily, he emphasized that this passage reveals not only Christ’s power to heal, but also the necessity of faith.

Quoting the words of Christ, “Everything is possible for one who believes,” Metropolitan Borys pointed to the father’s honest prayer, “I believe, Lord; help my unbelief,” as a model for every Christian. He noted that faith is not static, but grows through struggle, humility, and trust in God.

Reflecting on Christ’s teaching that such challenges are overcome “only by prayer and fasting,” he underscored the central place of prayer as a living dialogue with God, especially during the Lenten journey.

Metropolitan Borys invited the faithful to use this time of Great Lent to deepen their faith, strengthen their prayer, and renew their confidence that God’s grace overcomes every difficulty.
