Metropolitan of Philadelphia Borys Gudziak presided over the funeral of Andriy Parubiy

On September 2, the Cathedral of St. George in Lviv hosted the funeral service of Andriy Parubiy — a prominent Ukrainian politician, co-founder of the People’s Movement “Spadshchyna,” one of the organizers of the Revolution of Dignity, long-time Member of Parliament, and Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of the VIII convocation.

The service was led by Metropolitan-Archbishop of Philadelphia Borys Gudziak, concelebrated with Auxiliary Bishop of the Lviv Archeparchy Volodymyr Hrutsa and numerous clergy.

In his farewell homily, Metropolitan-Archbishop Borys emphasized the spirit of self-sacrifice that marked Andriy Parubiy’s life, "Andriy Parubiy defended our God-given dignity… He gave his life for his friends. Andriy was executed for you and for me. Today he speaks to us for the last time. Love one another, honor one another, cultivate solidarity. Do not divide yourselves by parties or ideologies. The danger before us is too great for us to face it in disunity."

Family members, friends, government officials, civic leaders, colleagues, and companions came to bid farewell to Andriy Parubiy. Metropolitan Borys underscored the sacrificial nature of his life, urging all to follow his courage in defending dignity and one’s neighbors.

After the liturgy, the funeral procession moved to Rynok Square for a citywide farewell, and then to the Lychakiv Cemetery, where Andriy Parubiy was laid to rest.
