Memorial Day 2021. Prayer at St. Mary’s Cemetery

A joint memorial prayer was held at Saint Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery on Memorial Day, which was May 31 this year. Memorial Day is a national holiday observed on the last Monday of May in gratitude for members of the United States Armed Forces who died serving their country.

The occasion began with a Panakhyda (requiem service) led by Metropolitan Borys Gudziak who was joined by other priests of the Archeparchy. With deep gratitude they commemorated American soldiers who fought in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. They also prayed for members of the Ukrainian Galician Army and Ukrainian National Republic’s armies who are buried at the cemetery.

“We ask God to teach the human race to live in peace together. We ask God to stop the advances of conquerors, those who lust for power and for the land and dignity of others,” noted Metropolitan Borys Gudziak.
