St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Carteret was deemed a total loss after a three-alarm fire ripped through the building Tuesday night, November 27, 2018, officials said.

The fire broke out around 10 p.m. at the 64-year-old church on the 700 block of Roosevelt Avenue, a main road in the northern Middlesex County town. Crews from several towns assisted Carteret firefighters in extinguishing the fire. The cause is under investigation.

Opened in 1954, the church is affiliated with the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia.
