Three Sisters from Holy Trinity Province in Ukraine came to the United States in late Spring: Mother Sevastiana Karvatska, OSBM, Provincial Superior; Sister Inokentiia Brattsiv, OSBM, Second Provincial Councilor and Econome; and Sister Lucia Murashko, OSBM, Superior of the Zaporizhzhia Monastery. Over several weekends, they traveled to parishes in and around Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, and Chicago to thank donors, give updates on current ministries, and ask for additional support as the war enters its fifth year.
The Sisters arrived home shortly before a Russian drone damaged St. Andrew Church in Lviv, which belongs to the Basilian Fathers and is located less than a mile from their convent. This is an important reminder that noplace in Ukraine is safe as long as the war continues.
Holy Trinity Province is the largest in the Basilian Order with 142 Sisters. Sisters serve throughout the country, including in some of the most dangerous areas, where they work in education, pastoral care, and service to those in need, especially orphans, internally displaced persons, and the poor. In 1911, Sisters from Ukraine founded the Jesus, Lover of Humanity Province in Philadelphia close to the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral. Today the Motherhouse is in Jenkintown, a suburb of Philadelphia.
The visit from the three members of Holy Trinity Province was successful. They found it incredibly edifying to meet so many people, both Ukrainian Catholics and Roman Catholics, who are praying fervently for Ukraine. They also enjoyed visiting schools and speaking with children. The funds collected directly impacted men, women, and children in Ukraine.
