On September 28, 2024, the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia joyfully celebrated Catechist Day at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Philadelphia. The event began with a Divine Liturgy, presided by Metropolitan Archbishop Borys Gudziak. In his homily, the Metropolitan highlighted the vital role of catechists as witnesses of faith and expressed deep gratitude to the priests, religious sisters, and catechists for their tireless dedication to sharing the Gospel and nurturing the spiritual growth of others.
Following the Liturgy, Archbishop Gudziak imparted a special blessing upon all the catechists, sending them forth into the new academic year with encouragement and prayers for their continued mission of teaching and formation.
The celebration continued with a festive luncheon, where a special guest – Very Reverend Bohdan Tymchyshyn – led the participants on a spiritual journey, reflecting on the road from Jerusalem to Emmaus with Jesus. He invited everyone to rediscover their unique vocation as catechists and shared profound insights into the person and the role of the catechist in today's world. During the luncheon, Fr. Bohdan also incorporated a symbolic and interactive activity, where participants were reminding themselves of the necessity of the ongoing formation and God's guiding hand in their ministry.
Afterwards, the Religious Education Ministry presented designed catechetical posters, available in both Ukrainian and English. These resources will serve as valuable tools for educating both children and adults in the faith. Rev. Mykola Dziurakh and Uliana Dziurakh, co-directors of the Religious Education Ministry, extended their heartfelt thanks to all who attended, recognizing their vibrant witness, joyful service, and ongoing commitment to the Church.
The day was marked by a spirit of prayer, fellowship, and profound gratitude for the indispensable role of catechists in the life of the Church. The celebration was a beautiful reminder of the transformative power of faith education and the grace that flows from the dedication of those called to this ministry.
